Through its new Citizen Training Academy, the Virginia Civic Engagement Table (VCET) now offers free courses and trainings to members of partner organizations.
The Academy’s current course offerings can be found here; all courses are designed to help attendees become activists and leaders. For example, courses like “Activism for Busy People” help trainees balance civic engagement with the demands of day to day life. Other courses like “Boots on the Ground” and “Conversations that Work (Deep Canvassing)” teach new activists how to communicate effectively and persuasively with others in their community. Courses like Voter Registration and “Who’s Got the Power (Power Mapping)” teach bread and butter activist skills, and “Progressives and Race: We’ve Got a Long Way to Go” provides tactics for being better white allies.
In just a few hours, these courses help people become effective activists. VCET has already trained over 800 activists around Virginia, with plenty more courses scheduled in the coming months.
