Matt Brix was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. He earned a BA in political science in 1998 from Saint John’s University in Minnesota. Following his undergraduate work, he spent time in Suriname serving in the Peace Corps. In 2002, Matt moved to Albuquerque to attend graduate school at the University of New Mexico. After studying international relations and comparative politics, he earned a master’s degree in political science.
Matt's professional experience includes policy research, nonprofit management, advocacy, communications strategies, public speaking, lobbying, fundraising and leading service-learning trips for young people. He served on New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson's ethics and campaign reform task force in 2006 and 2007. Matt was the chairperson of the Albuquerque Clean Elections committee, which led the 2005 referendum campaign to bring clean elections public financing to Albuquerque. He also serves as board vice chair for Common Cause New Mexico.
